I am…
I am a South African contemporary artist based in Cape Town. My paintings explore colour, movement, memory and the complexity of being alive.
I am drawn to the things that resist simple explanations. The way colour can hold conflicting emotions. How a mark can suggest movement, a figure can carry a story, and a landscape can become something more than a record of a place. I want my paintings to have presence, to hold the eye and reward the time spent with them.
My work moves between abstraction, figurative painting and atmospheric landscapes. Each asks something different of me, but they share a common interest in the layers of experience that make up a life. I work with colour, gesture, structure and texture, allowing each painting to develop its own character rather than forcing it into a single style.

A life in painting
My relationship with painting has not followed a straight line. Life has brought its own demands, changes and interruptions, and there have been times when my attention was needed elsewhere. Returning to painting has meant finding my way back into a practice that remains deeply important to me.
I bring my lived experience into the studio, but I don’t set out to illustrate my life. Experience informs the work in quieter ways: in the colours I reach for, the marks I make, the decisions I reconsider and the things I choose to leave visible.
I have become increasingly interested in what a painting can hold without explaining. I want the work to remain open enough for another person to find something of their own in it.
What matters to me
I believe a painting needs more than a pleasing arrangement of colour. It needs an internal life, a sense of movement and stillness, tension and release. Every element must contribute to the whole.
I am interested in work that stays with you after you have walked away from it. Not because it tells you what to think or feel, but because something in it continues to unfold.
For me, being an artist means remaining curious, making difficult decisions, recognising when a painting has said enough, and being willing to begin again when it hasn’t.
I want my paintings to be full of life. Not life presented as simple or uncomplicated, but life in all its colour, contradiction, fragility and force.
That is what I continue to look for in the work.

The work
My paintings are created for people who want to live with art, return to it and discover something new over time. I value the relationship that develops between a painting and the person who chooses it, and the way a work can become part of the character of a home or a considered interior.
I welcome conversations with private collectors, galleries, interior designers and architects who connect with my work.
