into the current project for Am Weinberg Boutique Hotel in Windhoek.
I have been frantically working on three paintings that will be hung in the foyer of the Am Weinberg Boutique Hotel. Each painting has its own identity and had to fit into the brief of the color scheme supplied by the designer.
The greatest challenge has been working with encaustics on such a large canvass. There is always the fear that the medium will not withstand the pressures I put on it to hold the paint. I’m still in the experimenting stage of encaustics but so far I have been blessed with a beautiful stable medium that will last a few 100 years.
Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to a surface—usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used.
The inspiration for the paintings came from the owner of the hotel that wanted to have work with a deep spiritual and significant meaning. Each painting tells its own story. This last painting has special significance for me as it describes my desire to see good things happen in this life. I desire that each person that looks at this painting would get the message that there is one that cares and counts for them. I hope that this painting will bring a sense of peace and expectation to everyone that looks at it.
Blue is the color of truth and healing. Not only does is represent the eb and flow of water, but also the translucency of water. The truth is always translucent, never hidden. It can be approached from all angles and still it will stand.
Green represents health, growth, prosperity, restoration and most important of all…a new beginning. We all need new beginnings. Every morning is an opportunity to start fresh. To lay down the burdens of the night and rise with the dawn on your face.
The purple color used in the sky represents royalty, kingship and mediator.
The yellow represents enlightenment. I am not the one who can entitle myself with enlightenment. It is only within the truth of the mediator that one can get a small glimpse of the future.
I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
